What's In A Name?

Hello friends! Whether you are an old friend, following since we were named “The Vintage Nest,” or a new friend that has always known us as “Seed and Soil,” I wanted to take a moment to share the heart behind our little business and how this is manifest through our new name.

Seed and Soil exists to encourage and inspire you as you walk through life. Whether you are memorializing the celebration of life's greatest joys or walking through deep sorrow, we want to help you remember what matters most: faith, hope, and love.

We chose the name “Seed and Soil” because the potential contained in a tiny seed provides a powerful metaphor for personal growth and how that growth can spread like the branches of tree, to shelter, comfort, and care for others.

“He said therefore, ‘What is the kingdom of God like? And to what shall I compare it? It is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his garden, and it grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air made nests in its branches.’” Hebrews 11:1

We want this business to not only be about the exchange of goods between two parties; we also want it to be a source of encouragement to you and your loved ones as you walk through the joys and struggles of life. We want to encourage you to not become weary of doing good, but to anchor yourself to the hope that we have.

We also want to extend beyond the interaction of maker and customer. We want that exchange to help fuel the growth of others. Those who may not have a strong support network, those who may find themselves at a place in life where they need someone to come alongside and lend a hand. This is why we give 10% of our sales to the local non-profit, Miriam’s House. Miriam’s House works to end homelessness in our community and they are doing an incredible work. To find out more about them visit their website: www.miriamshouseprogram.org.

This means that your purchase not only offers you a daily reminder of inspiration and encouragement, it also directly helps me support my family, and helps a neighbor in  time of need. Thanks so much for supporting my small business!  Xoxo – Whitney
